The Body Keeps the Score—And Breathwork Helps It Release

It's becoming widely recognized that our experiences—especially the painful or overwhelming ones—don't just live in the mind. As explored in The Body Keeps the Score, they are held within the body itself.

And yet, knowing this is one thing. Healing it is another.

Many of us live predominantly in the thinking mind—analyzing, understanding, trying to "figure it out." But deep healing doesn't come from thinking alone. It requires a descent out of the mind and into the body.

Breathwork is one of the most direct and powerful ways to make that shift.

Through conscious connected breathing, awareness begins to move beneath the surface—into sensation, into emotion, into the deeper layers of the nervous system. In this space, the body can begin to unwind what it has been holding: tension, fear, grief, anger, shame, and the accumulated imprints of lived experience.

Rather than forcing change, the breath invites it.

Without needing to analyze or interpret, the body enters a natural process of release, regulation, and reorganization. What has been held can begin to move. What has been contracted can begin to open.

It's simple. And at the same time, profoundly transformative.

Hart has been facilitating breathwork sessions for individuals and groups for over six years. His approach is informed by Breathwave and grounded in creating a safe, intentional space for deep inner work. Sessions are held in a private garden cottage at Portland Healing Space and are around 90 minutes long.
